Roderick Strong set to make WWE main roster debut next week

Rockstar Spud debuted as Drake Maverick, the new GM of the Cruiserweight division as announced by WWE SmackDown Live GM, Daniel Bryan. Maverick wasted no time in clarifying the Cruiserweight Division title picture by announcing a 16-man tournament to crown the new Champion.

The former Cruiserweight Champion, Enzo Amore, was released from the company following sexual assault allegations being raised against him.

This meant that the division no longer had a champion, and that the proposed Cruiserweight Title match at Royal Rumble with Cedric Alexander was no longer happening.

The first round of the tournament saw Cedric Alexander defeat Gran Metalik and TJP triumph over former UK Champion Tyler Bate.

WWE took to Twitter to announce next week’s matches. We’re getting Lince Dorado Vs. Kalisto and Hideo Itami Vs. Roderick Strong.

Whilst Hideo was called up to 205 Live from NXT a month or so ago, this will be Roderick Strong’s first main roster match, making it his debut. It’s unclear at this point if this is just a one-off or if Strong is permanently moving to 205 Live.

Hideo Itami has reacted to the main roster debut of Roderick Strong by sharing a picture of the two together, but reminding him that this will be Itami’s opportunity.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next week to find out who out of Roderick Strong or Hideo Itami will make their way to the next round of the Cruiserweight Title Tournament.

However, Roderick Strong may have a shot at another WWE title if he wins his 1st contendership match against Tyler Bate on NXT
